But we held our somewhat annual Salmon Slam last night. Teams from Vancouver, Seattle, and Victoria. Seattle won and took away the now coveted Salmon Slam Hammer.
It was another full house and another sell out. This means around 120 people into a hot and muggy and sweaty room. The open mic was pretty good but the slam itself seemed kind of off. Seattle was definitely the strongest of the three teams overall but each of the others had their moments.
The judges were harsh and consistent so there was no real score creep and those who got the high scores earned them (Christa Bell, Magpie Ulysses, Roberto Ascalon and Hakkenkrak). However, I don't know if it was the heat but the energy in the room was weird. It was really buzzing before the show and then things settled down and it took a while to wake folks up.
I'm glad Victoria came over as this was their first team slam competition of any kind. They are all rookies at this thing and I wanted them to get the experience of seeing some established scenes do their thing. All this in prepariation for the CFSW in October. I think it will do them well.
I saw Mike very briefly. Always great to see him but it sucked that it was so short. And at the slam everyone else is clamouring to hang out with him that we don't get to spend too much time. He'll be back though in Octber for the CFSW. It will be a nutty festival. And it's only 11 weeks away. What am I going to do?

SO...
..
.
When are you all going to invite a NorCal team to participate again? SF won it twice in the past, you know. Are our Northern neighbors S-C-A-R-E-D?!?

Y-E-S W-E A-R-E
I do remember 99 when you guys came up here and took the Vancouver portion. Not sure about Seattle and Portland.However....this was kind of last minute in the sense that we only confirmed it a month ago and then I was out on the road for two weeks.
That being said I would love it if we could get some NorCal back in the Salmon kitchen.
It would probably be easier if we started planning ahead now. We were thinking of July for 2006 and that might conflict with a BOB, although it could be any amalgamation of NORCAL slammers. The solstice weekend is what was briefly rumoured.
And along those lines but not quite (so frickin much happening) the folks from the Victoria team want to organize some sort of salmony slammy for this January...maybee third weekend in. I'll keep you posted if you can keep that time around then open.
